Woodbury FFA Holiday Plant Sale Goes Virtual
December 1, 2020
WOODBURY — Looking for a wreath? Maybe a poinsettia? Or even a yule log? All Christmas plant necessities can be found at the Woodbury FFA holiday plant sale.
Shoppers can buy cyclamen, Christmas cacti, yule logs, kissing balls, 24-inch wreaths (classic or “people’s choice” styles), 48-inch wreaths (with a red or plaid bow), and poinsettias in red, white, or pink.
The poinsettias, Christmas cacti, and the cyclamen are all grown here at Nonnewaug, and the wreaths are decorated by Eric Birkenberger’s greenhouse production class.
“Since 2020 has been such a rough and different year, I am excited to bring a small taste of normalcy with the plant sale,” Birkenberger said.
Due to COVID-19 precautions, all ordering must be completed in advance online. The selection is more limited this year and won’t include the traditionally interactive nature of the event, either, but the class will run a Zoom session to teach wreath decoration skills later this month.
“The students have been working hard to prepare for you, but due to this year’s unprecedented challenges, our wreath designs are limited this year in order to ensure that all orders are filled,” Birkenberger posted on the Woodbury FFA website.
All of the funds from the sale go back into the greenhouse production fund so the class can keep making arrangements and getting class plant materials.
Pickup for purchases will be Dec. 5 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. However, other pickup dates and times can be arranged. Orders will be halted when the program runs out of wreaths, so don’t wait!
“Thank you again to all of those who continue to support our program and its students,” Birkenberger said.
