About

The Nonnewaug High School Chief Advocate is the student-run news publication of Nonnewaug High School, the public high school of Region 14 in Woodbury and Bethlehem, Conn. Content is produced and edited by students taking our Journalism and Leadership in Journalism courses taught by Kyle Brennan, Conor Gereg, and Ben Guerette. Additional video content — the NHS News — is produced monthly by the video production courses taught by Katie Blake, and the Tribe Table Podcast is produced regularly by library media specialist Deb Flaherty.

After being a print-only product for many years, the NHS Chief Advocate moved to a digital-only format in September 2020. The journalism program has exploded in popularity among students, attracting nearly 90 student journalists among five classes in 2024-25.

The Chief Advocate was honored in 2023-24 by Student News Online as an SNO Distinguished Site, an award bestowed to fewer than 100 student news organizations in America.
