Nonnewaug freshmen enjoyed a meet-and-greet with police K9 dogs after winning a contest to raise money to outfit a police canine with a protective vest. This was one of many service projects completed by Nonnewaug advisory groups this spring.

WOODBURY — Most advisory groups at Nonnewaug spent the spring planning and completing service projects to make some sort of impact on the school or local community.

Some groups collected change to purchase a safety vest for a police canine. Others sold soup in ceramic bowls as a fundraiser. Still others wrote thank-you cards. There were dozens of projects completed this spring — and it’s just a preview of what’s to come in the future.

Starting with the Class of 2023, Nonnewaug students will have to complete a capstone project to graduate.
