Where’s Toby? Nonnewaug’s Favorite Feline Friend is Enjoying His Retirement

WOODBURY — As of April 8, Nonnewaug’s beloved feline friend, Toby the cat, was relocated to a safer location to spare him from the ongoing construction and constant passersby at NHS.

NHS students were saddened to hear that their favorite barn cat and mask-break buddy left the school.

As the year draws to a close, students still recall the memories they shared with the cuddly barn cat. Some are still upset over the circumstances.

NHS junior Sage Wotton said: “I miss Toby; it’s frustrating that he got sent [away].”

Toby had to be relocated after an unfortunate encounter with a student. Toby is now enjoying time at agriscience teacher Marisa Bedron’s parents’ home. Students and staff know that this is a positive move to keep Toby safe and happy.

Many students recalled how affectionate and caring Toby was with anyone who handled him. Even when he was being picked up and cuddled, he remained calm and collected.

“Having Toby on school grounds was really enjoyable, especially this year. When we would go on mask breaks, he would always run up to us and look for attention,” said NHS senior Skyler Hoag.

Students are looking forward to hearing updates on Toby and are hoping his future is as bright as his past at Nonnewaug.
