WOODBURY — With spring break right around the corner, students may be scrambling to make plans and have places to go. With local thrills and traveling some distance, the fun can be found no matter where you look. A survey by the NHS Chief Advocate asked students about their plans for spring break. For those who said they didn’t know what they were going to do, this article is for you. Let’s take a look at some places to go to while off from school.

Note: Time estimates for travel are from the school’s address; depending on where you live, the time and distance may be different.

Six Flags New England

Located a little over an hour from our campus in Agawam, Massachusetts, is the “thrill capital of New England.” Home to world-famous roller coasters such as Wicked Cyclone and Superman, this park is one to not miss. Other popular rides include Harley Quinn, a spinning pendulum ride, Batman, a floorless roller coaster, and Cyborg, an indoor spinning ride. This park is the only New England theme park open during spring break, making it the place to be for students in Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Maritime and Mystic Aquariums

The Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk is an hour from NHS, while the Mystic Aquarium in Mystic is an hour and a half from NHS. Both aquariums feature sea creatures and fun interactive exhibits for everyone. NHS aquaculture students can enjoy talking to industry professionals at both places to learn tips of the trade and what working in the industry is like.

Rock N Jump

Since the weather isn’t ideal, this indoor trampoline park may be your place to go. Located in Trumbull, about 40 minutes from Nonnewaug (15-20 minutes for out-of-district students in the Valley), it is a fun way to burn off energy and stress with friends. With many trampolines, basketball hoops, jousting, rock climbing, and even dodgeball, there is something there for everyone.

Spring Sports Games

The regular season for spring sports is just beginning. Come out to support your favorite Chiefs on the diamond, track, or court. You can view the master varsity schedule from CIAC here.

College Visits

Spring break is a great time to explore future colleges. Whether the college is local like UConn or a plane ride away like the University of Central Florida, you can turn any college trip into a short vacation for the whole family. The college planning process is stressful, so using school breaks as a time to visit and relax is a great way to have fun and explore the surrounding area of your future school.

Have Fun!

No matter what you end up doing over spring break, it is important to remember to have fun and relax. Spend time with friends and family or catch up on the sleep you missed cramming for that test. See you in a week, Chiefs!
