WOODBURY — The days are getting longer and warmer, and that can only mean one thing: Summer is almost here, and it’s time to go shopping and find all the best summer pieces for our wardrobes. Here are the hottest summer trends.

Cutouts

Cutout pieces made their debut on the spring/summer runway of 2021, and the popular trend is here to stay in 2022. Cutouts add a fun element to an elegant dress or one piece. Designers such as Christian Siriano and Saint Laurent are making statements on the runway after their styles have been trending all over social media.

Lime Green

It is no surprise that green is making a comeback as the color of the summer. Lime green was seen everywhere on the runway as celebrities cannot get enough of this vibrant color. Since lime green is a refreshing color, it’s super easy to style with basic colors such as white or gray.

“This summer I am most looking forward to wearing brighter colors and patterns,” said Rebecca Varnum, a Nonnewaug junior. “During fall and winter, I got used to wearing more muted and dark colors, but now that summer is coming up I’m excited to wear bright pieces of clothing and floral patterns.”

Hot Pink

If you are not a fan of wearing green, don’t worry because you are not completely out of luck. Hot pink is turning heads this year, making the Barbie inspired color a must to have in your wardrobe. Hot pink was first introduced as the color of summer in 2020, and it’s no shock that the bright highlighter hue is back to dominate the world.

“I think that this summer, a lot of trends from before the pandemic will come back,” said Zoie Cole, a junior. “People online are reminiscing about the summer before Covid hit, or even the summer during the first lockdown. I think with shows like Stranger Things releasing new content, that is really going to add to the nostalgia factor to fashion. I am excited to find out.”

Mini Skirts

The miniskirt is finally back, after they were seen on the Miu Miu runway. Luxury brand Miu Miu has gone viral for its nostalgic style, and playful clothing. Celebrities have been seen wearing miniskirts with colorful patterns, and it looks like this trend is here to stay.

Halter Necks

If you haven’t figured it out yet, Y2K-inspired clothing is coming back for summer 2022. Halter necks are only becoming more popular because of how fun and easy they are to style. Whether you are wearing a mesh halter top, or a crazy pattern-filled top, halter necks are the perfect choice to upgrade any outfit.
