WOODBURY – Nonnewaug students are currently giving back to the community during the holiday season. Expectations are set high for food donations, but organizers are urging last-minute donations to help meet the goal.

Many preparations have been happening for this food drive. Sandy Snabaitis, Nonnewaug school nurse and Leo Club advisor, noted the club’s determination during meetings.

“We created and designed the food bank donation boxes, sent out Google Classroom notifications, and are in morning announcements,” Snabaitis said.

Mia Kacerguis, NHS sophomore in the Leo Club, believes that the food drive can be announced even more, since donations have been slower than in the past.

“I feel like more students would donate if the food drive was advertised more,” Kacerguis suggested. “I think it’s important that the food drive is promoted as much as possible as it will benefit people who need it most.”

Snabaitis was hoping for more participation from the school.

Especially compared to last year, there’s room for improvement,” Snabaitis stated.

With the deadline of Dec. 21 approaching, Snabaitis is asking that NHS students come together and donate as much as possible until then.

“We will continue to take donations until Wednesday the 21st, [the Lions members] pick up at 7:45 a.m.,” Snabaitis concluded.
