WOODBURY — Nonnewaug High School appreciates Principal Pamela Sordi for her role in making NHS what it is today. Sordi is not only a principal, but she’s also a friend to teachers and students alike. Sordi has helped Nonnewaug grow and flourish like no other.

Many of the teachers and students love Sordi, who has left an indelible mark everywhere she has gone. Many students can say she has been an amazing principal.

“Mrs. Sordi is so nice to me all the time,” says Atlas McJunkin, an NHS sophomore.

Faculty, staff, and fellow administrators echo the sentiment of what Sordi has provided Region 14.

“She’s one of the best principals we’ve had,” said veteran science teacher Toby Denman. “She’s very caring and makes sure the students get the education they need.”

Sordi is an amazing principal but she is also much more. She has helped students get through hard times and made sure they succeeded through even the most challenging moments.

“She always makes sure to ask me how I am doing every morning,” says McJunkin. “[She] is very helpful when it comes to helping students.”

Beyond being helpful, Sordi has a reputation as a compassionate, understanding, and sweet person. Many students have been touched by her presence and will remember her and everything she has done for Nonnewaug as a whole.

Before Sordi became principal at Nonnewaug, she most recently worked as an administrator at Woodbury Middle School.

“She worked for WMS, but we were fortunate enough for her to come here, which is amazing,” says Denman. “She’s always cared about the students.”

Sordi has always been passionate about her students and their well being. This same attribute showed during her time at Nonnewaug. Many students and staff appreciate her hard work and compassion throughout her last years.

“Mrs. Sordi has been one of the best principals we have had at Nonnewaug,” says Maura White, a longtime English teacher.

Sordi’s connection with students and staff has been bonded by her tenure in the district, a tenure that’s spanned multiple decades. Her roles at Region 14 took her from NHS’ guidance department to WMS administration and finally NHS principal.

“Mrs. Sordi has been a pillar of Nonnewaug for decades. Being home grown, she knows our building and our community more than anyone who has ever been our principal,” says Jessica McKay, NHS’ English department chair. “She has brought Nonnewaug stability, humanity, and strong leadership. I will remember her mostly for the dedication and love she has always had for this school and for our students. She has always been a person who focused on building relationships with students and faculty. She will be forever missed.”
