BETHLEHEM — The tractor pulls are back in town this fall — despite historically wet conditions.
Every September, veteran tractor pullers, and even some students, get their tractors ready for the pulls — keys turning, throttles up, and stepping off the brakes driving into this year’s tractor pulls.
The weather this year made others doubt if this year’s pulls would be canceled, but luckily they weren’t. The rain seemingly passed through all of September’s tractor pulls, making it still able for people to still pull.
When fairgoers think of tractor pulls, they know that dirt and rain don’t mix that well together. It either makes good traction, or makes everything slippery.
“It was wet, so good traction, but I definitely didn’t want it to rain. When I pulled it wasn’t pouring down rain,” said Chad King, a Nonnewaug alumnus. “It was just slightly raining, so at least I didn’t get poured on.”
The rain definitely made it slow for the people, but the experience made it worth it.
“The rain slowed me down: The weights were a problem, and the rain definitely made it slippery,” said Nevin Whitford, a local community member. “If it didn’t rain, I’d probably pull great.”
