WOODBURY – The first official Freshman Class Council meeting is in the books. The anticipated event, for some, took a turn: Only three girls showed up.
Since only three people showed up, this worried the council.
Hannah Keating is one of the three girls who showed up to the first meeting. She is both worried and hopeful for this year.
“A concern I have is that since there is a small number of people, it might be [because of] a conflict of interest. Sometimes this person wants to do one thing and this person wants to do a different thing, but I think if our advice keeps us on track we will be fine,” said Keating. “I think with our personalities combined, we are leaders and we can really make a change.”
According to other members of the Freshman Class Council, they are actively working to find new members right now and already have some great things in the works.
They also came to the conclusion that many people don’t really know a lot about Class Council.
Rebecca Trzaski, one of the group’s advisors, gave a little insight as to what Class Council is.
“Each class creates a council, and that council is responsible for organizing all the activities of the class,” Trzaski said. “Freshman year, a lot of times we are focusing on getting a game plan in place. Fundraising efforts are big, and making sure we have a good committed crew to our council.”
The council is working really hard to make great things happen, and even with just three girls, they are confident they can do it.
