WOODBURY — ‘Tis the season for the Woodbury FFA Holiday Plant Sale.
Nonnewaug floriculture students spent Friday’s classes making wreaths for this weekend’s FFA sale. The annual sale is a major fundraiser for the Woodbury FFA and includes wreaths, poinsettias, and other holiday decor.
The sale includes pickup of pre-orders Friday and then a general sale to the public Saturday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
“People can come on and buy the custom wreaths that people made,” Nonnewaug senior floriculture student Hannah Searles said. “All of these wreaths are all custom that they did today in the floriculture class.”
Floriculture teacher and FFA advisor Eric Birkenberger oversees the annual sale.
“Today, I have a bunch of classes decorating wreaths,” Birkenberger said. “If we don’t have any wreaths decorated by the morning, we can’t sell them, so our agenda or objective is to decorate as many wreaths today to sell tomorrow as possible. We also have the greenhouse full of poinsettias, so the kids are maintaining and checking those. We also have to get the cash register set up so first thing in the morning when the customers get here, we will be ready.”
