The Chief Advocate’s editorial staff has selected Nonnewaug sophomore tennis player Luke Primini and sophomore track athlete Sophia Garguilo as the school’s May Athletes of the Month.
Primini finished an undefeated season in the Berkshire League as the Chiefs’ No. 1 singles player, winning the league championship match in straight sets. He also also led Nonnewaug to the Class S state championship match for the second straight year and helped the Chiefs earn a share of the BL title.
Garguilo also led Nonnewaug to another BL outdoor track and field championship, winning three gold medals at the league meet, including a pair of personal-best finishes. She won the 400 meters in 59.11 seconds and helped the 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams place first. At the Class M state championships, she finished sixth in the 400 and helped the 4×400 team finish fourth.
