WOODBURY — This year’s Homecoming Dance is a lot earlier than past years. Students and even teachers have dealt with some of the challenges with it being so close to the start of the year.
But what was the reason for making Homecoming so early compared to previous years?
“The homecoming games and things like that are earlier this year,” science instructor and Homecoming organizer, Joshua Kornblut said. “They’re September 19th and so we wanted the dance to also be around that same time, rather than being in October like it was last year.”
Not only do students have to navigated an earlier Homecoming, but Homecoming sporting events can also prove to be an issue.
Payton Brown, a freshman athlete at Nonnewaug, finds that managing being an athlete while still preparing for the dance was a little challenging.
“Time management for being in sports and finding everything in a timely manner so I’m not rushing at the last minute,” said Brown.
Esther Lin, a freshman at Nonnewaug, is one of the many students who have been dealing with the struggles of the dance coming up so fast.
“ Since it was earlier than I anticipated I had to change my schedule so I could go to the dance,” Lin said.
Student athletes have to balance time with games coming up in their schedules while making sure they have enough time for the dance as well.
“It was a lot, it’s been very stressful, but I think we are getting it done,” said Kornblut.
Everyone is getting things together for Homecoming, slowly making sure all the pieces are in place for Friday night.
Even though students and teachers are rushing around to make it a great dance, students are still excited.
“[I’m] excited for the bond between the grades,” said Brown.
