WOODBURY — Nonnewaug’s National Honor Society just hosted their first blood drive of the 2024-2025 school year. This event happened on Sept. 17. Anyone over 16 could donate blood.
Melissa Hodges, science teacher and advisor of the National Honor Society here at NHS, believes this is a great opportunity to save lives.
“This is something easy that you can do to literally save three people’s lives,” said Hodges. “Also, donors received free $15 gift cards and crocheted blood drops.”
Many lives have likely been saved by these students, and teachers that gave blood, one of which being Joshua Kornblut, a science teacher at Nonnewaug.
“Doing it in school,” Kornblut said, “it gives some older students an opportunity they otherwise wouldn’t go out and seek.”
Katie Farrell, a senior at Nonnewaug, helped set up the blood drive and helped spread awareness for the blood drive.
“It’s such an easy thing you can do,” Farrell said, “and it makes such a big change.”
