WOODBURY ー The Northwest United football team recognized three seniors from Nonnewaug and four from other schools in the co-op prior to the Workhorses’ Oct. 26 game against the Vinal Tech co-op.
Seniors R.J. Barksdale, Chase Heidorn, and manager Billy Calabrese were the Nonnewaug seniors honored with their families. Janos Kobylarz and Tristan Van Dyke from Wolcott Tech and Luke Nichols and Reed Woerner from Shepaug were also recognized before the Workhorses’ 37-8 win.
Brady Herman, the team’s junior quarterback, said he will be sad to see the seniors leave but was happy that they were recognized for their contributions.
“It was good to see the first-ever class of Northwest United to play all four years on the football team since they combined, so it was pretty cool,” said Herman. “Senior Night is a great night for the seniors, and even though I’m sad to see them leave, I know they will go on to do great things.”
Heidorn said he had a great time at the game.
“Senior Night was a good time for our team by beating Vinal Tech and all of us seniors coming together as a whole. Overall it was a great time for us seniors,” said Heidorn. “Senior Night was in fact a memorable night by walking out in front of everyone on our team and taking pictures with our families [and] also getting presents from the coaches and the parents of the team.”
