WOODBURY — A new addition to the Nonnewaug boys varsity soccer team has not only helped them to be 9-1-5 entering the regular-season finale, but there’s also a buzz around the school about this new freshman star.
Vinnie Rose is a freshman at Nonnewaug, and he has been electric throughout this season. Through the first 15 games, Rose has scored nine goals, the most on the team. He also tallied two hat tricks in September.
Kaden Coons, a fellow freshman on the team, says Rose has had a big impact on the team’s success this year.
“Vinne just always seems to know what to do and how to do it,” Coons said.
Rose’s talent is not going unnoticed by fellow players or coaches.
“He’s the type of player every coach wants,” said Max Dmitriyev, a freshman soccer player. “It’s crazy what he’s been able to do just this season.”
As much as Rose is getting the attention on him, he says he’s trying to keep true to himself.
“The most important thing to me is to try and stay humble,” Rose said. “The best thing I can do at this moment is to not let it get to my head. The hardest thing for me I think is staying consistent because I know my team and my coaches count on me. I’m definitely a little surprised; I never really thought I would have this good of a start to high school soccer.”
This humble attitude by Rose has led him to success this fall season.
Joshua Kornblut, the assistant coach and JV head coach, also believes that Rose has had a major positive impact on the team this year.
“He just knows the game really well and has a lot of great skills,” Kornblut says. “Even after he scored his hat trick, he was still looking to set up his teammates and get them involved.”
