WOODBURY — Joshua Kornblut, a beloved former WMS teacher and now part of the NHS staff, has recently moved up to the high school, following the freshmen class he taught as eighth-graders.
Kornblut is a major part of the school community: a science teacher, a coach for the boys soccer team, and a class advisor where he helped with NHS’ Homecoming Dance this past September. Even more recently, Kornblut helped to facilitate the annual Trick or Treat community event.
Before coming to the high school this September, Kornblut worked at Woodbury Middle School for six years. He was the eighth grade science teacher, and served as an important member of WMS.
“Moving from the middle school to the high school was a whole lot easier because every student at the high school went to WMS and was in my class so I know a lot of the students,” Kornblut said. “Also, working in the district for several years and coaching, I knew a lot of the staff members well.”
Kornblut is slowly getting used to the new experience of Nonnewaug, just like the freshman, and he’s part of NHS’ growing community.
Beyond the many things Kornblut provides the NHS community, he’s especially proud of the high-level learning his students do in his science classes. Featured here, Kornblut’s lab groups were given different amounts of zinc and the same amount of hydrochloric acid to determine the chemical composition of zinc chloride. They were doing this In order to better understand the nature of ionic bonding.
