WOODBURY — Junior/senior greenhouse plant production classes have already started to work on caring for plants for the Woodbury FFA Holiday Plant Sale.
“There’s a lot that goes into preparing for the plant sale,” senior greenhouse plant production student Haley Sarandrea said. “We just recently got our order of poinsettias in, so we worked to unpack those and then we all help to water them as well. We also just got our wreath blanks in, so we will use those to design all the wreaths that we sell, which is a very large task for our classes.”
The plant sale helps teach the students more skills while helping the program raise money.
“No. 1, it’s a good fundraiser,” says plant production teacher Eric Birkenberger. “No. 2, there’s a lot of practical skills that are acquired from that activity, everything from using a cash register to asking people [questions], [and] I guess we’re gonna have Cubes now for credit cards, so that’ll be something that we have to learn. [There are] a lot of good practical skills in sales, in decorating, in horticulture and everything.”
