WOODBURY 一 The Nonnewaug indoor track team attended the Bethel Indoor Invitationals on Feb. 1, the Chiefs’ final meet prior to Friday’s Berkshire League championships.
Gianna Desjardins, a sophomore on the team, felt the meet went well but knows there’s still a lot to improve on prior to BLs.
“The meet went well overall. I feel I did OK,” said Desjardins. “I think I could have been more prepared, maybe practicing block starts more before running the 55 [meters]. But overall, everyone did well in their individual events.”
Confidence is a big part of track, especially for Luke Lodice, a sophomore who felt nerves but got through the meet feeling great.
“I needed a really solid day to get my confidence going into BLs,” Lodice said. “Going into the 4×8 I had nerves but was able to harness everything and run what felt like the perfect race. [We’re] 24th in the state for the 4×8 and we still have more left in the tank. [The] 1,600 went well. [I] was pretty tired but held pace for a solid PR. Going into 4×4 as a sub, [I] was very tired but had to show up if we wanted a medal. [I] gave it everything I had and got bronze.”
The league championships are Friday at Bethel.
