WOODBURY — Say goodbye to the unforgiving snow and say hello to the bright warm sun. Nonnewaug students are ready for the nice weather and the summer to come. They are ready to get their energy back and come out of hibernation.
“I am so sick of the winter, it is so unbelievably annoying to wake up and see snow,” said Sophie Caron, a sophomore at Nonnewaug. “It’s not just the flowers that need to come back to life this spring… my energy levels are also in ‘hibernate’ mode.”

Students are over having to check the weather in the morning before they get dressed or even before leaving for school. Christa Freel, a junior, talks about how she feels about having to use the weather app everyday before school.
“Winter had it’s fun, but I’m done with the cold. I’m just waiting for the day I can leave the house without checking the weather app every morning,” Freel said.
Having to find out what you want to wear is another struggle with it being winter. It’s always a question how many layers need to be worn. Students are happy they finally get to take the layers off.
“I’ve been waiting all year for the day when I can finally stop wearing 17 layers of clothing,” Caron said.
Not only is the winter obnoxiously cold but also dangerous and students share their feelings on the ice that was covering roads and lawns for weeks.
“I am just tired of constantly having to watch where I step so I don’t slip and fall on ice,” Freel comments.
Students are sick of only knowing what the cold feels like. They are finally happy they get to do more things outside of school and realize there is more to life.
“I honestly think I’ve forgotten what the sun feels like. I’m so ready to get outside and finally enjoy it,” adds Freel.
“After months of freezing temps, I am ready for sunshine to remind me that there’s life outside of school,” Caron said.
Some students enjoy playing sports outside and some students enjoy being able to enjoy being outside with their animals. Caron is overjoyed she finally gets to ride her horses without freezing.
“I am so beyond excited that I can ride my horse without freezing to death. I can get off my horses without my legs feeling like they are going to snap in half,” Caron said.
Other students are simply just ready for the sun, heat, and less layers when they are outside with their animals.
“Just having the sun beating down when I am with my cow and goats makes living life worth it,” Freel said. “Nothing is better than being around the animals I love while soaking up the sun.”
