WOODBURY – During a Nonnewaug High School play, a rag is left on the stage, but there’s supposed to be a dance number soon, which makes the rag a big slipping hazard. The students start to worry, but instead of just carrying on with the performance and potentially risking injury, June Robinson, a student and member of theater, without breaking character, goes on stage and has a monologue about the prop and how terrible the castle is. This is just one example of Robinson showing her skill and her care for others.
Robinson has been involved in acting for several years.
“I got involved in theater when I was 10 years old when I did my first theater production, Seussical Jr., where I very quickly developed a love for acting and singing and all things musical theater,” says Robinson.
By the time Robinson started her freshman year at Nonnewaug, it was apparent to Catherine Pelkey, the theater director at Nonnewaug, that she was very skilled in school theater, and she still is.
“I love working with her. She has such a wide acting range. She has great comedic timing and instincts that make her really versatile. She can go from comedic roles to dramatic ones with ease!” says Pelkey.

“She is naturally talented and enjoys every aspect of theater,” says Todd Gorski, a music teacher and helper with any and all things musical at Nonnewaug. “She brings her own experiences to class and works hard to improve her skills every step of the way.”
Robinson loves being in theater and acting on stage as well as the behind the scenes work.
“In my opinion, the best part of theater is bringing stories and characters to life from a page, working with other people just as passionate about it as I am, and being able to express my creativity in such an outspoken fashion,” says Robinson.

“I love directing her as she is always open to try new things and experiment during a scene: taking chances is how great performances are made! When the audience fills in and the lights go down I’m always proud to see what she does during a performance and I look forward to more!” Pelkey says.
Robinson’s next performance will be in Godspell, Nonnewaug’s spring musical.
