The Chief Advocate’s editorial staff has selected senior wrestler Durkin Stankevich and junior runner Sophia Garguilo as Nonnewaug’s Athletes of the Month for February.
Stankevich won the Berkshire League and Class S state championships at 144 pounds. He also finished third at the State Open and fourth at New Englands.
Garguilo won the 300- and 600-meter races and also helped two relay teams win Berkshire League gold medals at the inaugural BL championships. Her sprint medley relay team also won the Class M title and owns the fastest time in the state (4:17.29), a national qualifying time.
