WASHINGTON, Conn. — Nonnewaug track and field looked to defeat neighboring rival Shepaug in the dual meet April 29. The Chiefs left Washington victorious — the girls beat Shepaug, 119-30, and the boys won, 77.67-72.33.
Noah Spagnola, a senior captain, said the win will help the team later in the season.
“I think that beating Shepaug really helps with motivating the team as we progress into the season,” said Spagnola, who ran the 4×800, 800, and 1,600 at Tuesday’s meet. “I hope our team can make a strong showing in the BL championship meet and that everyone performs to the best of their ability to ensure our team’s success.”
Hazel Cole, a sophomore, said the victory proves the team’s ability to perform.
“I feel like it shows how we’re going to be very successful because Shepaug is one of the better teams,” says Cole, who competes in hurdling, high jump, and triple jump. “This reflects how successful we are going to be against the entire league.”
The team looks forward to a successful season, and hoping to pull through with a Berkshire League championship win May 17 at the Plumb Hill track in Litchfield.
