WOODBURY — The Nonnewaug baseball team seems to be off to a strong start to their season.
Kyle Brennan, one of three coaches on the team, believes that the team has been hitting and throwing some well.
“With the exception of a few games, we have hit the ball well throughout the season,” Brennan continues. “Our pitchers have done a good job to give us a chance to win some of our games.”
Some players are wishing for the best for their last baseball season of their high school career. Mathew Dutton, the team’s designated hitter, believes that the start of the season is off to a better start than last year.
“It’s going great,” Dutton said. “I’ve been putting the ball in play as well as getting on base to help the team score runs.”
For people like Dutton, they want the best for their team, which means trying for all the championships, state titles, and other wins.
Nonnewaug also has some younger athletes on varsity, like sophomore pitcher Jackson Demers, who thinks that it’s a privilege to play at such a high level early on in his high school career.
“It feels good knowing that I get to play at the highest level I can as a high school student so early on,” Demers said.
Demers believes that the leadership this season versus last is very different.
“The leadership of the team has improved,” Demers continued, “and we have improved as a team.”
