WOODBURY – The Woodbury FFA sent three teams to compete at Lakeview High in the district Leadership Development Event competitions May 1 for Quiz Bowl, Conduct of Chapter Meetings, and Parliamentary Procedure.
Freshman Brooke Stokes, one of the team members for Quiz Bowl, experienced jitters on competition day.
“At first I felt nervous,” said Stokes, “but then once we got into the competition, I felt more confident as we started getting more questions right.”
At the end of the day, the Quiz Bowl and Conduct teams placed first, while the Parli-Pro group placed second.
Jnior Nate Berry competed on the Parli-Pro team. This team runs a mock meeting solely focusing on the parliamentary procedure of the meeting. He also recalled the stress from that day.
“We were all pretty stressed,” said Berry, “but we felt like our practice on the bus was really good, and then we got into the room and got nervous again.”
When Parli-Pro was competing, they had accidentally adjourned their meeting within the first minute, which is not what they were supposed to do. Since they still had so much time before the next team, they were allowed to go again, which earned them second place.
Freshman Charlotte Berry, who competed in Conduct, said she felt the day was enjoyable with a little stress along the way.
“It was fun,” said Charlotte Berry. “When we were all competing, we were so nervous, but after the fact, we were told it was our best run.”
All three LDE teams will be attending the state competition on May 16 and 17 at UConn’s Storrs campus.
