WOODBURY — As the summer temperatures rise, so do the clippers to cut many Nonnewaug students’ hair. That’s right: Buzz cuts are all the rage, and it’s easy to spot one in Nonnewaug’s crowded hallways.
But they are just not it. Not only are they ugly, they are also a great way to expose y’all’s crooked hairlines.
“I lost a bet,” said Nonnewaug sophomore Luke Lodice, “and it was also a good excuse to get one.”
Lodice isn’t the only one walking around looking like a military recruit. The sudden rise in popularity of the buzz cuts leaves people staring — or reaching for the razors themselves.
“A bunch of my friends came over to my house one Saturday,” said Nonnewaug sophomore Maddox Poythress, who also got a buzz cut. “I think like three of the five people there already had buzz cuts, so I just decided to do it.”
One of the people without buzz cuts is me. There was no way I was getting one, let alone allow one of them to cut my hair.
I can understand the benefits when it comes to having a low-maintenance hairstyle and not having to worry about doing your hair in the morning, but I still think it is not worth it.
“It’s just one less thing to worry about in the morning,” says Poythress. “I literally can just get up, eat breakfast, brush my teeth and leave the house.”
Other people claim they just simply sport an improved appearance with the buzz cut.
“I think I look better with the buzz cut,” says Lodice. “My girlfriend also agrees.”
Nonnewaug sophomore Joey Boyne, who got a buzzcut in the beginning of the year, claims he is proud to have started the trend.
“I feel like I started a trend here at Nonnewaug and everyone here is following in my footsteps,” says Boyne.
Boyne also thinks he’s made the school a more attractive community.
“I think people look a lot better with the buzzcuts and its also so much less time you have to spend getting ready,” says Boyne.
But Nonnewaug sophomore Iris Messore thinks otherwise.
“They are overrated, ugly, and unoriginal,” says Messore.
Whether they look good or not, buzzcuts will increasingly grow in popularity as the summer heat turns up.
“I would definitely recommend a buzz,” says Poythress.
This is the opinion of Cam Jones, a sophomore reporter for the Chief Advocate.
