WOODBURY — With finals and end-of-year projects, the final stretch of the school year can be stressful for many, though it also holds many exciting things, for not only seniors, but all.
Color Wars is an event that most look forward to, being a fun way to end the year and raise Nonnewaug pride. With a combination of colored powder and engaging activities at the spring pep rally, Color Wars is an event to remember.
The Color Wars can be the highlight of the year, but this year the Student Council decided to cancel the event that was planned for May 23. Despite many complaints about the cancellation, there was a method to the madness.
“It is something where we need it to be a nicer day and also on top of that … the day before prom, if it is wet and we’re doing the Color Wars, it can just impact some of those students going to prom as well,” said Joshua Kornblut, the advisor of Nonnewaug Student Council.

Although many were disappointed by this, some do agree that the cancellation was for the better.
“Color Wars is a really fun thing that we do at Nonnewaug, but the day before prom is probably a bad idea because nobody wants to get their skin or hair stained right before prom,” Aubrie Salisbury, sophomore at Nonnewaug, agrees.
Student Council wants to make Color Wars memorable and fun, so with avoiding the stains from color on everyone’s mind — and rain in the forecast — they agreed it was better to save it for next year.
For the freshmen, this would have been their first time participating in the Color Wars, an event they have looked forward to since it was announced.
“As a freshman, I was excited for my first-ever Color Wars,” says Catherine Viveros, freshman and member of Student Council. “It has seemed very exciting in the past, but due to certain circumstances, we can’t have it, which I understand, but it’s also sad.”
It seemed like students had mixed feelings about the cancellation of Color Wars, and that is something that Student Council understands.
“I definitely think some students are a little disappointed,” Kornblut said, “though I’ve heard some that are disappointed as well as I’ve heard some that are completely fine with it.”
