WOODBURY — Every school day that goes by is another day closer to the school year being over — and another day closer to finals. Each day closer to finals is an increase of stress, so one way to bring fun to the end of the school year is for teachers to have a bring-your-kid-to-school day.
Freshman English teacher Rebecca Gambardella brought her seventh-grader, Beau Gambardella; the kids loved having him in class.
“I think it’s a great experience for the students because you guys realize that we are also human and we have families,” said Rebecca Gambardella.
Having teachers’ kids in the school brings out the best in the students at Nonnewaug.
“The big kids rise to the occasion and are so much better when they are responsible for little ones,” Rebecca Gambardella said.
Some teachers with younger children, like science teacher Joshua Kornblut, decided that their kids are too young to participate in this day at Nonnewaug. But, they plan to bring them in the future.
“I wanted to bring her, but I didn’t because I thought it would be a lot,” says Kornblut, “She just turned 3 years old and I think I should give it another year; when she’s 4, it just might be easier to handle her.”
Even though bring-your-kid-to-school day is supposed to be a fun event, it can also add some extra stress onto the teachers.
“It’s just one more thing to think about when you’re already multitasking, and making sure your own child is behaving and safe and doing what they’re supposed to be doing,” says Gambardella.
