WOODBURY – Seasons changing, student athletes settling into the new school year, and the 2025 sports season turning up. On Sepmber 3rd, every high school in the state started their fall seasons with their first in-league game of the year. And for the Nonnewaug Chiefs, it was a big one.
Field Hockey played at home against a big competition, Watertown High School and brought home their first win 3-0. Nonnewaug’s boys and girls soccer teams both faced Housatonic Regional High School,with the girls on the home turf and the boys away.
The boys won 3-2 in overtime after being down 2-0 the half. Girls soccer won 5-2 after also being down 2-0 at the half. Both teams came back to win their first league games.
NHS Volleyball came close to bringing home their first win against Brookfield, but after a close five-set game, the Chiefs lost 15-8.

Along with setting a good tempo into the new Berkshire League season, on Septeber 5th, NHS teams played in a series of games at home and away. Boys soccer won against Lakeview High School 2-0, and girls soccer put up a 3-0 game against the Bobcats.
Chiefs Field Hockey played at Lakeview, putting up a 1-0 win. Finally volleyball won all three sets against Lakeview.
Scoring for NHS boys soccer was Jake Cenatiempo and Vinnie Rose, and for girls was Rosie Makarewicz with two and Audrey Doran for one. In field hockey, Ella Brown finished the game strong to score and win with one goal.
