WOODBURY- Roaming the Nonnewaug hallways, you may have seen the occasional “Paw Patrol”, or “Lightning Mcqueen” backpack. To many freshmen’s surprise, these are carried not by elementary schoolers, but seniors in high school.
Upperclassmen, particularly seniors, take part in the tradition of bringing young children’s themed backpacks to school.
Lana Zupnick, a senior at NHS, is one of those who participate in the trend, bringing a “Bluey” themed backpack to school each day. For Zupnick, ending her years at Nonnewaug would only be complete if she could incorporate humor.
“For my last year in high school, instead of carrying a boring and plain backpack, I decided to go with a childish one, just for laughs,” Zupnick says.
This tradition isn’t just for the appeal of seniors, though.
“It’s fun that everyone gets to see what kinds of backpacks kids will show up with; the variety of different bags and the amount of kids that follow this trend is pretty amusing,” Zupnick says.
