WOODBURY- As quarter zips gained popularity back in the 80’s the trend is slowly making a comeback for the new Gen Z’s as the popular Tiktok trend “quarter zips and matcha” have been the top trend.
The new Tiktok trend circling everyone’s current ‘For You’ page is “quarter-zips and matcha” as winter rolls around the corner Nike techs are out and quarter zips are in. But where does the matcha come in?
Junior Max Sorcher has been seeing this trend non-stop.
“I’ve been seeing the trend all over my feed like non-stop and I think it’s more of a joke but it’s just how people are dressing now. I don’t know how long it’s going to last but it’s pretty cool,” said Sorcher.
Junior Luke Lodice feels they needed a preppy accessory to match the vibe.
“They added matcha into the trend because they needed something spiffy to go with quarter zips since it matches the vibe,” said Lodice.
For Nonnewaug science teacher Joshua Kornblut, isn’t especially fond of this new trend but feels he’s already been on top of it.
“Unfortunately, I have heard about the new quarter zip trend,” said Kornblut. “I’ve been wearing quarter zips for years now, so I’ve been ahead of the trend. I’ve been king quarter zip for years.”
Nonnewaug’s assistant principal Declan Curtin agrees with Kornblut.

“I’ve been wearing quarter zips for years, I would say people are copying the elderly in this country,” said Curtin.
On the other hand, junior Jadyn Heron is grateful this trend has happened.
“When I see a guy wearing a quarter zip it just makes my day. I am glad quarter zips became a trend,” said Heron.
While some people are grateful for the trend, people who have already been wearing quarter zips find the trend annoying.
“I don’t like that people are bringing up the quarter zip trend to me,” said Kornblut.
Junior Henry Strzelecki agrees with Kornblut, noting that this fashion choice has been around for years.
“I like wearing them but it’s kind of annoying now that they’re super popular,” said Strezelecki.
Junior Ethan Butkus feels people are just wearing them now to fit into the trend.
“I think they’re nice clothes but I don’t like the trend because people that wore them before are getting grouped with people that are just trying to wear them for the trend,” said Butkus.
Junior Jayden Cardenas is vibing with the new style, appreciating the new look on campus.
Their sudden comeback is filling the halls with stylish outfits rather than people dressing homeless for school but are people just doing this to be part of the trend? But now that this is happening people who have already been wearing them are being grouped into this.
“Quarter zips are nice, fashionable, comfortable, and they match with a lot of outfits,” said Cardenas. “Quarter zips are nice, fashionable, comfortable, and they match with a lot of outfits.”
Despite how students and staff feel, this quarterzip trend is hard to ignore on campus.
“I’ve been seeing the trend all over my feed like non-stop and I think it’s more of a joke but it’s just how people are dressing now,” Sorcher said. “I don’t know how long it’s going to last but it’s pretty cool. I think the matcha is a part of the trend just to match the vibe of the quarterzips,”
