After the shocking ending of Marvel’s superhero film franchise Avengers: Endgame, released in 2019, many fans were left wondering what would happen next in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After a year passed without any new movies, Marvel announced that the streaming service Disney+ would release four new television series in 2021, beginning with WandaVision.
On January 15, 2021, the first of 9 episodes of WandaVision were released exclusively on Disney+, whose parent company Disney also owns the Marvel film franchise. WandaVision, a post-Endgame continuation of the doomed love story between characters Wanda Maximoff and Vision, is the first series in Phase Four of the MCU.
WandaVision, starring MCU original cast members Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, opens with these two heroes living in a 1950s sitcom as a newlywed couple.
After only seeing the first episode, fans online already started to come up with crazy theories and potential plot twists.
“I’ve seen a lot of theories on TikTok, and the craziest one that I’ve heard of is probably that the bunny in the show is Doctor Strange,” said Alexa Burke, a NHS senior and WandaVision fan.
The final episode came out on March 5th. As usual, Marvel made sure that the end of this series ties into Marvel’s next project. Marvel confirmed that Wanda Maximoff will be appearing in the upcoming film Doctor Strange Into the Multiverse of Madness, which is set to be released in 2022.
According to a national news interview with Matt Shakman, the director of WandaVision, there are no current plans for a second season because it was originally intended as a limited series leading into other parts of the MCU. However, WandaVison has attracted so many fans it could mean a potential second season.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which debuted on March 19, 2021, is the second MCU series released on Disney+. Loki is scheduled to be released on June 11, 2021.
SPOILER ALERT! Some of the WandaVision fan theories have actually turned out to be correct. “I predicted that Agnes was Agatha Harkness, a witch, disguised as a member of the town, which was revealed a couple episodes ago,” said Burke.
Agatha Harkness was a character seen before in the comics. Many marvel enthusiasts went all the way back to the comics and re-watched movies to look for clues and hidden details. Marvel is known for including the most intricate and important details within its stories.
