WOODBURY – Nonnewaug High School is excited to welcome Jennifer Plasky, a seasoned educator with 20 years of experience in both the landscaping industry and the classroom.
Having worked with landscaping companies, greenhouses, and even owning her own business, Plasky brings a lot of practical experience and a strong love for plants to her new job.
“I’ve never had a job that wasn’t related to plants,” she said, highlighting her commitment to horticulture.
Before coming to Nonnewaug, Plasky taught at several schools, including Wamogo, Bloomfield, Stamford, and two New York schools, Argyle and John Bowne.
“I’ve covered everything from nursery and landscape design to greenhouse production and floral design,” she shared.
Plasky was also the director of the Connecticut Florists Association Floral Design School and taught adults at the Orange County Community College. Her wide-ranging experience helps her to provide her students with a well-rounded education in landscaping.
One of the most exciting parts of Plasky’s move to a new school is her enthusiasm for planning creative projects.
“I’m looking forward to creating new experiences for my classes,” she said.
Some students had the opportunity to experience her teaching style during a demonstration lesson at the very beginning of the 2024 summer, and reactions were positive.
“She made everything so engaging,” junior Nate Berry said. “I didn’t think I’d be interested in plants, but her lesson was really fun.”
Her lesson left everyone eager to learn more.
“The lesson was really informative,” junior Connor Cabeleira said, “and I can tell she will be an amazing teacher and a perfect fit at Nonnewaug.”
