SOUTHBURY — Nearly three months after the once-in-a-thousand-years flood that devastated parts of Southbury, Oxford, and surrounding towns, some business owners are still fighting to rebuild their livelihoods.
Cathy Dibner, the owner of Cathy’s House of Chickens in Southbury, lost more than 100 birds in the Aug. 18 disaster. She said her insurance company and the Federal Emergency Management Agency both denied her claims, leaving her searching for what to do.
Luckily, she said, community members and businesses have been willing to help by donating funds and manpower. One of those businesses is Rustic Charm, a Woodbury shop owned by Charlotte Adams.
