WOODBURY- Around the holidays, nights get cozier and the world seems softer each time December rolls around.
There is no doubt in my mind that Christmas time is the best time of the year. It’s finally snowing, people’s houses are decked out in lights, and the Christmas tree scent wafts through the air for me to notice when I’m studying. My heart feels warmer and my mind feels clearer every time Christmas is just around the corner.
Christmas doesn’t need an explanation as to why it is special. The sense of communities coming around to each other, holiday baking with my family, and everything about the festivities creating a sense of safety and comfort. It is that one time of year when the world slows and you can just breathe clearly and laugh.
“I love the holidays, I love decorating and all the things involved like going to the Grinch breakfast and all the family time that happens when we go see lights and decorating the tree,” said Jamie Lisevick, one of Nonnewaug High School’s most holiday enthusiastic teachers. “It leads up to so many memories and opportunities to create fun.”

There is more to it than what people think when the words are mentioned. It is about the content feeling watching your friends and family open gifts you give them and not just gifts themselves.
“Christmas makes me feel happy and everyone is together,” said freshman Violette Starr. “It makes me feel warm inside that everyone is with their family and friends doing things they love and not just being greedy for gifts.”
According to Pew Research Center, roughly 86% of U.S. adults say they meet up with friends and family during the holiday season to complete traditions and dinners, to give, and spread love.
Bonding with family can create stronger connections that increase each year, making holidays and reunions even more fun.
Snowflakes everywhere, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” playing on every radio station in every cafe or Old Navy I pass, excessive garland wrapped tightly around my stairwell railing; Christmas follows you everywhere and yet no one (not even the Grinch) complains.
“I think all of the decorations are cool and make people feel more festive,” said Starr.
Not only is hanging out with family and friends so much fun during the holiday season, the traditions that you create during this bonding time are even more sacred and special.
“Every year we do the Christmas train where we get to go to the north pole and see Santa Claus,” said Lisevick.
Family bonding and the whole feeling of festivity and kindness brings out the best in people. When the snow starts falling, so does the cloud that shadows people’s minds from the happiness of the holidays. Christmas really is the most wonderful time of the year.
