The date is November 24. It feels like Halloween just ended and most people have Thanksgiving on their mind. But me? I’m thinking about Christmas.
I think Christmas is the most highly anticipated season of the year. So when the time cracks away and we’re nearing December, or even November, the Christmas decorations are going up, the ugly sweaters are being put on, and the radio is blasting with Christmas carols.
I love the Christmas season so much to the point where I’m waiting until the “socially acceptable” time, which is obviously the first week of November, to decorate and sing Christmas songs all day long. And as the cherry on top, I know I’m not the only one.
“It [the Christmas spirit] brightens my mood and it brightens the mood of others around me,” Bryce Gilbert, a Nonnewaug sophomore says. “I just love how much joy that Christmas brings and the Christmas spirit really just brightens the whole [season].”
While this could be just personal preference, there are actually really great benefits to decorating and starting to celebrate Christmas early. Studies show that exercising the Christmas spirit at an earlier date can be a mood booster and even decrease stress, just as Gilbert said.
A widely known example of a stress causing scenario is school. As the season of school carries on at an exponential rate causing crazy headaches, test cramming, and countless hours taken out of personal time, the anticipation for the upcoming holiday season is even more immense.

To accommodate for the time waiting for the season to come, decorating for Christmas, listening to Christmas music, and simply just being in the spirit alike are practices that many take part in to reduce this near anxiety from school.
I know that when I am ready for school to ramp down, despite the constant load of work, and feel the Christmas season creeping up even for the slightest second, I decorate my room as soon as humanly possible.
Right now I have a Christmas tree, snow globe, and Christmas candles set up in my room. Not to mention the countless Christmas treats and holiday themed Starbucks drinks I’ve already had.
Although there are so many reasons other people and I start celebrating Christmas in November, some don’t like to.
Unfortunately, Sophomore Isla Jones is one of these people who prefer to keep the Christmas season, well, around Christmas. “We skip over Thanksgiving when we celebrate early. Thanksgiving is a holiday too and deserves to be,” says Jones.
While this is true, I think Thanksgiving is simply a more minor holiday than Christmas. We even go to chop down our own Christmas tree just the day after Thanksgiving. But hey, this is just my opinion.
Even so, after the factual evidence, there are still so many people just like me who are simply just excited for Christmas and the season that comes with it.
I mean what could we say?
It is the most wonderful time of the year!
