WOODBURY – One part of NHS that truly sets it apart from other schools is Woodbury FFA’s Aquaculture class. This isn’t a typical course you find at just any high school. It’s apart of Nonnewaug’s FFA program, which offers a wide variety of agriculture-related classes, but Aquaculture has some hidden gems beneath the surface. In this class, students don’t just study fish—they also explore fish habitats, water quality, and the biological systems that keep aquatic environments healthy. This mix of hands-on learning and science makes Aquaculture a unique and valuable part of the NHS experience.
Anthony Perez, a senior at NHS who has taken aqua his senior and junior year, helps catch fish to show the younger generation of fish lovers. “I truly do love showing and telling kids about fish. Seeing their faces light up when they see a really big fish or even one with cool colors makes my day everytime,” Anthony Perez said.
