WOODBURY一 After a dominant 2026 Berkshire League regular season, the Nonnewaug Chiefs finished their year on top by claiming the BL Tournament title. The Chiefs went 18-4 overall and 16-0 for the BL.
Henry Keil, Captain, senior, and BL Second team shortstop for the team, believes that his team has had tremendous growth throughout the season and is passionate about the big win claiming the BL Title.
“The season went great in my opinion, everyone had a great season and even with some bumps along the way we still came out with the win,” said Keil. Keil was a freshman on the 2023 state championship team four years ago. “I think we have a really good shot at states this year. I believe our team can go far and do great things if we put our all in and really believe we can do it. It’s my last year here, I want to make it count.”
BL pitcher of the year and BL baseball finals MVP Brady Herman, a senior on the baseball team, feels the team needs to bring their all to the diamond for the final stretch of the 2026 season.
“So far we’re playing together and playing as one. To do well in the post season we need to do the same,” said Herman. “I mean there’s always that hope to go far, but baseball is a game of many possibilities. We need to stick together and overall hit and play solid defense to do well.”
The Chiefs will continue in their first round of states against Wilton on Monday, June 1st at 3:30. Nonnewaug, the 4th seeded team, will host Wilton, the 29th seeded team in the Class M tournament. The winner will play on Tuesday, June 2nd and face the winner of St. Joseph (13) and Killingly (20).
