WOODBURY—As the 2026 spring season is winding down, the Lakeview girls lacrosse team is eager to finish the year on a strong note.
For senior offensive-attacker Deme Jones, the season has been about more than just lacrosse but the bonds that she formed with her team.
“I think that everybody loves each other on the team,” Jones said. “Besides actual lacrosse, everyone’s good friends, and that definitely translates on to the field because we communicate and know how to talk to each other, we’ve also become close enough to know how to make each other feel better when things aren’t going well.”
Junior midfielder Jadyn Heron has stepped into the new title of co-captain of the team; she has been working all season to keep a positive and uplifting attitude.
“Something I’ve improved on personally this season is my role as a leader on the team,” Heron says. “I feel like this season I’ve been able to help out the players more and I definitely think that they take me seriously and are open to talking to me about any questions they have.”

Nonnewaug sophomore offensive-attacker Cameron Ouellette has been on the team for two years now and notices how the team chemistry has developed from last season.
“The team chemistry and our overall game play has definitely improved from last year,” Ouellette said. “I think everyone is very close and comfortable with each other no matter who it is and we can always rely on each other on and off the field.”
Despite not having many wins, the team has maintained its resilience and is eager to carry some positive momentum into next season.
In these small victories there’s big hope for the coming seasons.
Being a first year captain is more work than most can anticipate, and for Heron even though the season has had its share of twists and turns, she still continues to push forward for her team.
“Honestly, it’s been pretty difficult to lead the team this year because we’ve just had so many ups and downs,” Heron said. “It’s challenging because I do most of it by myself, not only am I captain, but I also take on a large role of helping out my coach, a lot because we don’t have an assistant coach, and he’s not just coaching one but 2 teams.”
Looking forward to next season, most of the team will stay in tack with Heron resuming the role of captain next year.
“For the rest of the season, we just want to continue to stay focused and work hard,” Heron said. “We also want to win a few more games in the remainder of the season.”
