The Chief Advocate’s editorial staff has selected Nonnewaug junior wrestler Durkin Stankevich and Nonnewaug sophomore pole vaulter Veronika Nicholas as the school’s February Athletes of the Month.
Stankevich won the 144-pound weight class at the Berkshire Valley tournament and followed it up with a second-place finish at the Class S state tournament, punching a ticket to the State Open. He helped the Chiefs win their third straight Berkshire League championship.
Nicholas finished fourth in the Class M pole vault competition with a leap of 9 feet, 6 inches. She was the highest individual finisher of any Nonnewaug athlete at the state championships.
