WOODBURY- Commonly, when senior swimmers graduate, they think it’ll be the last time they swim competitively; however, NHS swim and dive gave alumni the opportunity to come back and swim against the current team.
On January 2, 2026, NHS Swim and Dive coaches assembled a “mock meet” between the current NHS Swim and Dive Team and former NHS swimmers. Many of the former NHS swimmers came back to compete in this meet, including 2024 graduate Kyle Viveros.
“It was a great opportunity to get into the water and swim again,” said Kyle Viveros, former NHS Swim and Dive captain and sophomore at Penn State. “Even though I haven’t swam in a while, it was fun to swim against the new swimmers.”
Not only did this meet create nostalgia, it also created awareness of the growing NHS Swim and Dive program. Grace Walkup, a 2025 graduate, noted how nice it was to see the team thriving.
“It was really nice to see all of these new swimmers,” said former Captain Grace Walkup, now a freshman at Northeastern. “After all the years of low numbers of swimmers, it was great to see the program more successful than when I left.”
“We wanted to do this swim meet because it is great bonding and a great opportunity for alumni to connect and see the current program,” said NHS Swim captain Scott Viveros.

Even though it’s been a while since many of the former swimmers still have the swimming adrenaline in them.
“For the first 50 of my Individual Medley I felt strong and fast,” said Viveros. “But, I definitely lost some stamina towards the end.”
Viveros also noted how much he thinks the team has grown.
“The meet helped me realize how much potential this team has,” said Viveros. “I think the season is going to go very well for them.”
Overall the swim meet was a success and brought back lots of good memories for the almuni.
