BOSTON – As January roars on, NHS track and field carry the momentum of January 10th’s success in Boston where they competed in the annual Nor’Easter event into the back half of the season. The meet was held at The TRACK at New Balance, which features a six lane banked track. During this meet many of the girls found success and used the opportunity of running on a good track to its fullest potential.

Most meets that the Nonnewaug indoor track team competes in usually has around 10-50, this meet had a huge number of over 260 total registered team and clubs. A sophomore on the team, Thea Oleynikov shares how she thought that this meet was beneficial.
“The meet allowed us to compete against some really good people,” says Oleynikov. “Which in my opinion really helps push me to run faster.”
Between the six girls that competed in Boston there were a total of eight PRs (personal records). Two of these PRs came from sophomore Tatum Kociszewski.
“I was really excited to PR in both of my events, especially for my first meet of the season,” says Kociszewski.

Connecticut only features one banked track at Yale University, so for the majority of the team this was their first time running on a baked track.
Junior Gianna Desjardins understands the significance of running on a banked track.
“It was really cool, because it is something you don’t get to do a lot,” says Desjardins. “I was really grateful to have the opportunity to run there.”
Overall, the team scored especially well, with two of their athletes coming in the top ten.
The NHS track team will continue to compete against many teams over the next couple of months for their 2025-2026 indoor track season. The meet in Boston allowed for the team to get a strong start to a hopefully success season.
The season continues on with boys and girls indoor track heading to New Haven Thursday afternoon for an annual event at Hillhouse.
