WOODBURY一 The Nonnewaug Chiefs secured a 4-3 win over Northwestern in a tight matchup on Monday, April 20th.
Derek Chung, a senior on the team, gives insight into the close captured game.
“We went into the game with confidence but overall couldn’t predict the outcome. I think the team really came together and that’s what got us our win,” said Chung. “We put everything we had out on the field and even though it was a tough and close game we got through it and came out with a win.”
The game was highlighted when Nonnewaug senior team captain Brayden Whipple stole home for the game-winning run in the 6th inning, as well as adding a single and a double.
Seniors Tyler DiElsi and Henry Keil both had RBI doubles, Keil finishing with two to help put the Chiefs over Northwestern.
DiElsi was happy with the turnout of the game for both his team and himself.
“We really played as a whole team, everyone did their job, TJ was dominant through his 5 innings, we finally got our bats going, and Leo came in a tough spot but got us out of it,” said DiElsi. “For me it was good to finally get a hit, I’ve been struggling with the bat so it was much needed for me and my team.”
The Chiefs look to add onto their three-game win streak with a win over Shepaug, who they play today at home at 3:45.
