WOODBURY – The world will be watching players take the stage this summer for the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada. This year’s world cup games consists of teams from all around the globe with elite teams battling it out for the ultimate prize. With this we have many students who have their opinions about who and why which team will take it home. Some favorites include last year’s winners Argentina with Lionel Messi as their main man, Spain with their diverse and younger squad and Brazil with superstars galore to bolster their team’s depth.
With the playoffs completed and the groups set for the main show, people are now bracing for the thousands and thousands of fans to come to North America, which includes the countries of the United States, Canada and Mexico. With stadiums that can seat more than 80,000 people at a time, this is going to be one of the largest events of the year.

Students at NHS are expecting a good tournament and had their guess on who will take home the glory.
To capture the collective excitement NHS students and staff have for this summer’s games, The Chief Advocate canvassed some of campus’ boldest opinions about the upcoming World Cup.
“USA [is my favorite] because of home field advantage; I think they have what it takes.” – Mr. Laflamme, agriscience faculty
“Spain has so much talent flowing in their squad.” – NHS sophomore Carter Brooks
“Brazil are a strong favorite and my pick because their squad depth is insane.” – NHS science department faculty Joshua Kornblut
“Argentina [is my predicted winner] because they won last time and Messi is the G.O.A.T” – Joey Boyne
“I think England [is my favorite pick] because they have redemption to make and I have some hope in them this is their year.” – NHS senior Orlando Marcel
“Brazil because their manager Carlo Ancelotti is a phenomenal coach and is a 5 time league champions league winner” – NHS junior Danny Searles
“Often with All-Star teams, no one knows who’s good but my opinion is that usually I am a supporter of Portugal or Spain but my guess would be Spain.” -NHS Vice Principal Mr. Curtin
“Mexico because they are my favorite team and the soccer culture that they bring” -Liam Ryan
“Germany, They have very good defenders and they have Manuel Neuer – Dylan Diezel
“The popular belief among many is that Spain, who is the odds on betting favorite, is going to win the World Cup. This event is larger than just soccer as the advertising and events stretch to the general public. The world will watch.
