WOODBURY – As the school year comes to an end, freshmen reminisce on their memories from their first year in high school.
“Making new friends, playing volleyball,” Lauren Hardwick, a freshman at Nonnewaug, said. “I liked the pep rally at the beginning of the year.”
“A good memory was the freshman social,” Mackenzie Blood said. “Also, getting to know new people.”
Freshmen made good memories in classes and in sports, giving them funny times to look back on.
“One of my good memories is when I got hurt during wellness,” Nick Olivera said. “I tripped and almost rolled my ankle.”
Some also had good memories from their sports season mishaps.
“I’m sorry, but when the tire blew on the football bus,” Skylar Prihoda, a freshman at Nonnewaug said. “That was so much fun, it was kind of tough to see and a bit too crowded.”

Some freshmen joined clubs and sports which impacted their first year of high school.
“I did track and field and cheerleading,” Prihoda said. “I also did Student Accounts, Class Council, Leo Club, and FLA. I went to nationals for that one.”
“I joined the Lit Club, Drama Club, French Club, Student Council, and DECA Club,” Piper Robinson said. “It made me branch out and learn different life lessons and also help me meet new people from all different grades, not just freshmen.”
A big part of transitioning from middle school to high school is managing your time and learning to stay on top of your work.
“I always wrote it down on an agenda,” Hardwick said. “I had worked it out in class so I could remember what was happening.”
Though, some people weren’t as organized so they got their work done efficiently.
“I just usually do the homework during class it was assigned in,” Olivera said. “Or I’ll just do it when I get home.”
Some students learned about online organizers, which could be an easier way of keeping track of assignments for people.
“I use apps that help me keep track of time,” Robinson said. “Then I also use a planner to write everything down”
