WOODBURY — Every school year there seems to be a mobile game that takes over at Nonnewaug High School. Last school year it was Block Blast and this year it seems to be Clash Royale.
Clash Royale is a mobile game that was released back in 2017. Since then it has had many changes and improvements to the game. Throughout these changes there have been many ups and downs in number of players as well.
Recently there has been a spike in number of players, with many people who used to play returning to the game.
“I’ve been playing this game for 4 years,” says Nonnewaug senior Jonathan Cheung. “I quit for about a year from 9th to 10th grade, and I started playing again at the start of this school year.”
This seems to be a constant theme throughout Nonnewaug. A lot of people are starting to come back to the game after not playing for a while.
“I think it has to do with the game being all over Tik Tok,” says Cheung. “With famous streamers and such the game has been all over social media which is why I think the game has so many people playing right now.”
Like many other games the player count fluctuates often, but they have never seen a spike like this.
“I think it will go back to a more normal number of players,” says Cheung. “Like it was before the start of the senior year. I think the numbers will continue to be up and down, but I don’t think they will get above where they are now.”
