Chiefs Beat Terryville, Earn Share of BL Boys Hoops Title (PHOTOS)

Nonnewaug’s Robert Metcalfe (13) goes up for a layup during the Chiefs’ game against Terryville on Feb. 9.

WOODBURY — For the first time since 2016, the Nonnewaug boys basketball team owns at least a share of the Berkshire League championship.

The Chiefs beat Terryville, 63-35, on Feb. 9 before a white-out student section to improve to 12-3 in the BL. It was Nonnewaug’s eighth straight victory, and combined with Wamogo’s loss to Shepaug on the same night, it helped the Chiefs leap the Warriors in the league standings.

Lincoln Nichols led Nonnewaug with 15 points, while Ben Roden had nine points and 10 rebounds. Nonnewaug is 14-3 overall with games against O’Brien Tech, Gilbert, and Wolcott remaining. A win against the Yellowjackets on Feb. 21 will give the Chiefs the outright league title for the first time since 2011.
